Royal Society of Edinburgh and CoDeL highlight the policy value of lived experience and place‑based knowledge.
A new report published in 2026 by the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) and CoDeL argues that research and policymaking in Scotland would be more effective and equitable if they placed local communities at the centre of how evidence is generated and used. Drawing on a two‑day workshop held in August 2025 at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on Skye, the report sets out why community‑rooted research should be recognised as a core part of Scotland’s research and policy ecosystem and why current approaches often fall short.
