Paper calls for Scotland’s tertiary education sector to be rethought by a formal Commission.
A new paper published by the independent think tank Enlighten and authored by Huw Morris, Professor of Tertiary Education at UCL, and Des McNulty, former Scottish Government Minister for Social Justice, calls for a fundamental reassessment of the purpose, funding and organisation of Scotland’s tertiary education sector, arguing that the status quo is unsustainable and that piecemeal responses risk deepening systemic fragility. The analysis, Where Next for Scotland’s Universities and Colleges?, targets long-standing structural pressures on both colleges and universities and urges a comprehensive public debate and formal independent commission to rethink the sector’s design and objectives.
